Started in 2004, Berkeley Green Campus is a student-run internship program that works to increase campus sustainability by bridging the gap that exists between students and institutional energy costs.
Interns work to save energy on campus by increasing general awareness, incorporating energy conservation and efficiency into course curricula, and implementing projects targeting energy use, purchasing decisions, and operational changes.
Green Campus is overseen and funded by the Alliance to Save Energy and UC Berkeley’s Residential and Student Service Programs. We would also like to acknowledge the additional financial support we’ve received from Bears Breaking Boundaries, the Chancellors’ Advisory Committee on Sustainability (CACS), and The Green initiative Fund (TGIF).
Danielle Lauber serves as the campus lead for the team. She works hard to support the team from the Alliance to Save Energy’s Oakland, California office. She holds a B.S. in Environmental Forest Biology from SUNY-College of Environmental Science and Forestry and a M.A. in Environmental Science & Policy from Clark University. She is also an AmeriCorps alumnus where she led university students in community weatherization projects and educational workshops about energy efficiency and other environmental issues. Born and raised in NY, she is a recent CA transplant and loves to explore the bay area in her spare time
Maia Kapur is a 2nd year Environmental Science major from Seattle. Promoting sustainability and energy efficiency was something of a religion in her community growing up. She has worked with numerous panels to pursue "greener" ways of managing and reconstructing the buildings and environments we live, learn, and work in. She is eager to educate and engage other students about how they can help reduce emissions in our own home.
Sara Seacat is a 1st year Environmental Engineering Science major. She is from San Diego, where she likes to run on the beach and through the canyons. After learning about global warming in elementary and middle school, she got involved in numerous non-profit organizations including the Sierra Club, Surfrider San Diego and I Love a Clean San Diego. She was also involved in educating her high school peers on environmental issues and solutions. In her spare time Sara likes to talk to her sister, play with her cat, ballroom dance and read manga.
Anton Walker is a second year majoring in Urban Studies with a minor in Sustainable Design. He is excited to promote energy efficiency and water conservation at UC Berkeley while looking to work in the sustainable transportation field after graduation. In his free time, he enjoys running and hiking all over Berkeley
Manon von Kaenel is a 1st year majoring in something from the environmental field. She grew up in Palo Alto but was born in Switzerland, where she enjoys hiking in the Alps and eating good chocolate during annual summer visits to family. Her love for everything outdoors led her to decide to dedicate her studies to the environment. In her free time, she enjoys playing soccer, participating in student journalism, and baking.
Jacqueline Hsu is a 1st year from Los Angeles County and currently pursuing a double major in Environmental Economics and Policy and Conservation and Resource Studies. Her interest in environmental education and outreach has spurred her participation in environmental clubs at UC Berkeley. She hopes to help increase energy efficiency on campus through creative solutions. In her free time, she enjoys watching movies, hunting for bargains and deals, discovering do-it-yourself ideas, and spending time with her friends and family.
Emily Wong is currently a second year student majoring in Chemical engineering from Cupertino, California. She has always been environmentally conscious growing up, and hopes to influence others to be the same. After graduating from UC Berkeley, she hopes to pursue a career in renewable technology. In her free time, she enjoys swimming, completing DIY projects, and cooking.
Omsri Bharat is a first year Civil and Environmental Engineering student. She’s been interested in the environment and sustainability since an early age because of her family’s love for the outdoors. In her spare time, she enjoys soccer, Alfred Hitchcock movies, new and exciting vegetarian food, and spending time with friends and family.
